    A friend had a C=64 before I bought
mine and told me that after typing a
BASIC PRG in and running it after he
finished using the PRG it would have
    to
be entered in again the next day if
    he
    wanted to RUN it.

That's crazy. That would have really
annoyed me. I was lucky back in 1983
to be able to start with a 1541 on
the C64. Exactly the 1541 that I now
currently have as Drive #9 on the
C64 Snobsoft BBS. Yes, the floppy
with its 42 years is thus even older
    than Snobsoft and still works.

I'm not keen on either Debit or Credit (cards).

For my first internet purchase I sent an email asking if the seller would accept my personal check and delay shipping the item till the check cleared. The Seller advertised the movie"Bill and Coo" for a reasonable price and I wanted that old movie I saw when a youngster.

Those look like really great prices.
I didn't know you were in germany. I would buy it right now if I were you.

i see there's a party bowl tagline. did you quote wrong?
is that someone else saying that? I dont see that post.

that's all nice but just go on ebay and buy one if you want it.

I'm not needing a C=64 PC or System, I bought mine in 1984 and still have it. Tho not turned it on fer years

Last time the system was on I put a few 5.25" FD's in the drive and the data on them was still readable.
Now I got another ROUNDTUIT to add to the list.

    It still is #8, a 1581 is #9 here.
Months later I HAD to have a 1526 Printer which cost $350.00 USD, Ouch!

    For decades, I only had my 1983 C64 +
1541. But since I relaunched the
Snobsoft BBS after a 40-year hiatus,
    hardware donations have started
coming in on a larger scale. Many
    people think, rather than throwing
all this 'junk' away, I'd rather
give it to the nice sysop next
door :D It's getting to the point
where I'm wondering if I should even
accept everything (if I can accept
it all, due to space constraints),
or pass some of it on.

Although a check doesn't go through electronically, a check has your routing number and bank account number on it. Someone could potentially note those down and try to steal money that way too if they wanted to.

I think the bigger issue is losing the checkbook.

I was intrigued when I saw at a Wallgreen's pharmacy, that by writing
and signing a check that you were authorizing an ACH debit in the amount
on the check. They would not cash the check and instead would destroy
    it.

I wondered why they would do that - it's probably safer and therefore
cheaper to do ACH than to clear a handwritten check.

I've bought and sold a couple of cars. We need a better way than paper
checks to buy and sell items. I did do a bank wire for one car, we were
    on the same bank...

I haven't used a check in years now.. There was an apartment I lived in until 2015 where I had to pay my rent via check and drop it off at the leasing office, but that's the last time I used checks. I live in another apartment now, and they allow paying rent online, and their system allows you to put in a bank account (routing number and account number) to debit your account directly, or you can also use a debit or credit card to pay rent online here.

There are a lot of ways to pay for things these days. PayPal is one, but there are also more recent things such as CashApp and Venmo (which have smartphone apps you can use to send/request money), as well as Zelle - It seems Zelle doesn't have a stand-alone app, but it's a system supported by some banks where you can send/request money without sharing your bank account details.

Boy!, Did I start something when I wrote my opinion in this thread

I already read the messages posted in this thread, up to this Time and Date and will try to answer what I can remember I read

Re: the Router Number on Bank Accounts - I talked on the telephone with a business to open an account - the salesperson said the first payment was needed to be paid electronically and they needed the Routing Numbers and Check Number for it.
I agreed but learned when the checking statement came in the mail I saw the company had raised the amount so I called the Bank and told them not to allow any other electronic entries to the account.
When the paperwork from the company came in the mail the contract showed My first payment was called the Down payment and the payment schedule was made up for automatic electronic payments.
So I wrote my thoughts about that to the company and had the electronic payments changed.
