    Hi All,

From 1991-1993 I ran a Telegard BBS at night. I had wonderful memories of it, and now, 27 years later, I'm starting a BBS again, named Neon Plaza! This time using Synchronet which, IMHO, was definitely the best option.

Anyway, there's not much on the BBS (yet!) short of Dove-Net Message board setup, so I'm looking for tips & tricks that you all might have. I've been digging through all the documentation and there's a ton here!

Glad to be back in BBSland!

I hope it goes good. Try to find a speciality to help get more people to
visit your system. Like cooking recipies, or door games.

Welcome! I ran Telegard around the same time. I'd love to find the old Telegard binaries and take a look again at it.

I started with Telegard then went with Renegade. Programmed some pascal utilities for Renegade that made it on the Night Owl CDs. I am running Synchronet Linux right now but have set up a Renegade Dos BBS on a Windows 2003 VPS and playing around with it. Trying to get my old utilities I made to run (Which I can run them in DoxBox) but the Screen div/0 error stops me on anything else (even with trying patches) Much like you just wanted to be back into it. I would like to get back into the programming as well. Just trying to decide what direction to go for long term :-) Welcome!

Yes it was some type of CRT error, I think the number was 2000. I need to look at my real old CDs and see if I still have any source code.

runtime error 200: divide by zero

I need to look at my real old CDs and see if I still have any source code.

if youhave the sources, fixing the problem is pretty easy to do... otherwise the binary has to be patched with a patcher that can patch that specific version of TP/BP compiled programs... that also only works if the binary is not compressed with something like pklite... if the binary is compressed like that, it must be uncompressed first... then the next thing is if some anti-hacking code will whine about the patch and/or the unpacking...

Cathode Ray Tube? How does you monitor throw an error?

no... he's talking about the borland crt units that are used when writing certain programs... they contain the delay() routine which calculates the proper delay time for accurate delays in the code...

I think you meant CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check).

nope... the delay() calibration routine emits some number of NOOPs which have a known time cycle... then it subtracts the starting time from the ending time to figure out how fast the machine it... the runtime error 200, divide by zero, happens when the number of NOOPs used all take place within the same start end range which results in their execution being done in "zero" time... the code doesn't check for this and jumps directly to doing the division to figure out the calibration and since you cannot divide by zero, the code throws an error...

the solutions are to use a different delay routine or to add more checks to the existing code... either way, patches have to be applied...

C Runtime (library) error. "C" as in the programming language: 'C'.

    Nope. :-)
