• A way to re-download old QWK packets?

From Kurisu@VERT/FINALZON to All on Thursday, June 04, 2020 07:16:33
    Hello all!

I'm a new sysop, and I was hoping for a little assitance with DOVE-net QWK packets. I'll spare the details but, to set up what's gone on I did a "test run" of my BBS on a Raspberry Pi. I enjoyed the experience but couldn't quite get the hang of customization on that platform, and decided to migrate over to Windows, and by migrate, I mean just "start new" with the same BBS format.

This included using the same QWK ID, and I've noticed today that I'm only getting "new" messages since the last time the original BBS was online.

I'm curious if there's a way to manually download a relatively recent full packet and import that into my BBS to populate older messages (if that phrasing makes sense) so the DOVE-net section isn't so barren?

I've considered switching to a new QWK ID but didn't want to do such an "amateur" action unless it is the "best" way to go about resetting these messages.

I appreciate any ideas you all have! All the best!
    ~Chris

I've done that before by logging into my uplink manually and setting the message pointers to what date I wanted to go back to.

So, to clarify, I'd long into VERT via my QWK-ID and set the message pointers there?

Correct. You can also control your message scan configuration and pointers using QWK control messages (sent to "SBBS"), but it's likely easier for you to just logon to VERT (e.g. via Telnet) and use the menu options there at the QWK: prompt.

Yes. I've had to do it several times after rebuild or crashes over the years.

Logging into VERT and adjusting the pointers did indeed work out fine. I appreciate the help and quite like how straightforward the fix was, to give credit to Synchronet and DOVE-NET's respective designs.

I'll certainly keep that in mind for the future.

sometimes you gotta delete your data files when stuff gets corrupted and then login to vert and change your pointers and have your bbs grab the packets again.

or atleast that's what i do.

Totally makes sense! Glad to see it's something commonly done. For a moment I thought I was just incompitent haha!
