Don't mind me, just finished migrating the board to one of my *nix
servers and checking to see it's still working ---
It sounds like you migrated from Windows to Linux. Care to write
about your experience? I've been on the fenc to do that for sometime
and would love to hear some first-hand experiences.

If you're on the fence, do it. It might take a bit to set things up,
but it's worth it to be able to run the board on a server doing other
work instead of having to dedicate a box to it. ---
Yeah, I've got the time now, and I've gotten rid of most of my DOS dependencies. Allfix,Radius, and pkzip. Most everything I have is cross-platform, with the exception of a licensed Global War game that

DosEmu is still available, too. And less of a pain in the rear to setup than it used to be. What are you using in place of Allfix? ---

I'm using Tickit - the only problem is not being able to support
filefix netmails, but the file echoes are pretty quiet nowadays - and
I'm assuming that filefix support will come someday.

ummm... this has been available for several months... it needs a new sbbsecho from the repo at least...

Brain burnt - What I meant to say was is doesn't have the ability to make
upstream passthrough requests. If I have the area already, filefix
works just fine for my downstream nodes, but if they want to request
an area I don't have, Tickit doesn't support that (yet?)
Sure. I'm a Linux guy in general; the box I had the BBS on and an exchange mailbox server are the only systems with Windows on them at all either at home or in my business, so I'd wanted to move things over for a while. Only thing that held me back was not wanting to have to spend a lot of time setting up dosemu for doors. Luckily synchronet handles a fair bit of the configuration on that end now.
The bbs itself is a very simple process to move and setup. I had to do a little bit of work to get inter-bbs transfers working for BRE and FE, but that wasn't terrible either. All I really have left to deal with is restoring a few shell and menu customizations, and tracking down an issue that I'm having with LoRD under dosemu.

I've really been wanting to containerize the BBS and run under docker/podman, It would just wind up requiring a number of volumes for data, ctrl, xtrn at the least. I've gone back and forth a couple times. Haven't gone through setting up any doors via dosemu though.
I run SBBS in a docker container and it works well - both on my Pi
and Linux host (and my MAC as I tinker).
I dont use dosemu with SBBS at all (at the moment anyway) - but I do
run dosemu in another container running Ezycom/Portal of Power - so
should be fairly easy to have dosemu in the SBBS container.
