• Vertrauen Down?

From Weatherman@VERT/TLCBBS to All on Sunday, July 26, 2020 22:22:06
Hey all. Wondering if anyone has any info on Vertrauen BBS? I'm using the dyndns.js service and it hasn't been working for the past few days. Everything looked like it was working fine locally, the BBS picks up when I try to access it on my LAN and if I type my public IP address into the address bar the BBS answers as normal. Decided that the problem might lie elsewhere and decided to try Vertrauen. I'm unable to connect either on the web or telnet addresses. Did I miss something?

    Thanks for any info!

It works here. Try running it from the command line using jsexec. Just take whatever is in your timed events and use jsexec instead of the ?

    bbs@bbs:/sbbs/exec$ jsexec dyndns mypw -ip6 2604:86c0:4000:2:2:2:15b:3b03

JSexec v3.18a-Linux (rev 1.216) Debug - Execute Synchronet JavaScript Module Compiled Jun 22 2020 01:20:54 with GCC 7.5.0

    Loading configuration files from /sbbs/ctrl
    JavaScript-C 1.8.5 2011-03-31
    JavaScript: Creating runtime: 8388608 bytes
JavaScript: Initializing context (stack: 16384 bytes)

    Reading script from /home/bbs/sbbs/exec/dyndns.js
    /home/bbs/sbbs/exec/dyndns.js compiled in 0.00 seconds
    Synchronet Dynamic DNS Client 1.21

    RX: pw?
    RX: ip?
    RX: ttl?
    RX: mx?
    RX: ip6?
    RX: txt?
    RX: loc?
    RX: wc?
    RX: ok

Basically putting your QWK password instead of mypw and include optional -ip6.

Also make sure your account is still valid on vert by making an FTP connection with your QWK name and password.

There's some information missing here that might allow someone to help you. What leads you to believe dyndns isn't working? If your ip hasn't changed since the last time your record was updated, it won't update. Vert is working fine, are you routing DOVEnet through someone else? If not, then you are connecting to it or we wouldn't see your message. If IP addresses work and you aren't getting host replies on some hostnames, you likely have a DNS issue, perhaps try google's at 8.8.8.8 or 4.4.4.4 and see if that fixes your problems.

maybe the internets were clogged for some people depending on where they are located.

Yep. The intertubes can only carry so much at a time.
