• No more jet fuel in Cuba

From Aviation HQ@2:292/854 to All on Monday, February 09, 2026 17:25:08
Air traffic to and from Cuba is threatened with serious disruption as the country's kerosene supply runs low. The government has warned airlines that Monday will be the last day fuel will be available at Cuban airports.

Until recently, Cuba received oil from Venezuela, but the US is now blocking oil exports. President Donald Trump considers Cuba a threat to American security.

Air Europa, Iberia, Neos, and Turkish Airlines, among others, operate flights to Cuba from Europe.

A representative of Air Europa has confirmed that flights between Madrid and Havana will continue for the time being. Refueling will be provided en route in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

US sanctions against Cuba have always been more political (Court the Cuban vote), and retaliation for Castro kicking American businesses and mob run casinos out of Havana than any type of security threat. Embargo's and travel bans were put in place before the Cuban Missile Crisis, which was Soviet retaliation for the US putting medium range nuclear missiles in Turkey.

There was a time when we collected dis-used Fido-equipment and sent it to a node in Spain who would ship it to Cuba as they had no access to home-computers. Iberia operqted q service and cargo could go that way. It was support to local schools.

-- Slightly off topic (40 degrees of seperation).

I remember it being mentioned (I Think in When Heavan and Earth Changed Places - By Le Ly Hayslip). A charitable group she founded tried to ship C= 64s to school in Viet Nam, and the powers that be had a fit..

When I mentioned that causually to someone during conversation, I was told that you could still launch nukes with a C=64. Too many logical reply's too too much energy.... If/When we go to war with China, it will be strange that Viet Nam will probbably be our ally in the region...

Embargoes don't hurt the regieme, as they get first dibs of the pot, it also never makes them turn against the regieme, as it gives them someone else to point fingers at... I wish people would begin to undertand that,

    Okay... Back on topic, CUBA....

    Okay... Back on topic, CUBA....

So, who flies to Cuba these days?

Are there still Russian flights and, if so, how are they routed because there probably is a lot of restricted airspace for them...

I hear it's a meca for classic car enthusiasts.

I have been to Cambodia and Viet Nam, visiting Cuba would bother me not at all.
