• C128(d) Video modes

From Stephen Walsh@3:633/280 to All on Monday, August 24, 2026 22:07:54
    Hello everybody!

With all the recent talk about what the C128(d) can do for video modes.
I need some pointers to find a decent and recent display option.

I have a C128D (Plastic case). What is a good device to enable video output to a modern display?
    (HDMI/VGA/DisplayPort).

All the ones I've found say they support the C128, but no mention of the 'D' version.

The 128 and 128D have identical video outputs. The 128D has more video memory, but that can be added to the flat 128 too, so anything that works for one will work for the other.

Assuming it will plug in. If it has some sort of weird buly connector that might be a problem, but I've not seen anything that'd be an issue.

I use a device called MCE2HDMI to convert the RGBI out to HDMI. Requires an external power source, but I am happy with it, think it looks great. Can be found at https://serdashop.com/products/mce2hdmi. It isn't cheap but it works very well.

Does it do ALL 16 colors? I believe some of the solutions do not do some of the colors that use the INTENSITY pin, I can not rememeber if it is orange, or one of the browns....

Though CGA/VGA yellow always looked kind of orange to me anyway.

Does it display the Commodore brown of the C128?

To tell the truth I couldn't say for sure. It looks good to me and it's been very stable. I guess I don't pay that much attention. I'm satisfied with it and unlike some other solutions, this is a box that everything plugs into and not just some bare bones card sitting on the computer. I know everyone in the world (including me) has a 3d printer and they can just MAKE a case for whatever they buy, this is complete and I like that about it.

    I guess I'm not everyone.
