• Large Computer/Tech Haul

From Bo Holt@1:129/305 to All on Tuesday, November 03, 2026 21:46:51
    Greetings, all!

I just got a rather large haul of vintage machines amd peripherals and some other random techy things. It started with me going to just get an Apple II Plus with some rare cards and grew into me having to leave some things because our vehicle was full... hoping to go back this weekend and grab a couple more. I made a video, and it is divided into chapters for easily hitting areas of interest. youtube.com/bollingholt

    Hope you are all well!
    Bo

... Do I even WANT ancestors? Some of those I found I wish I could lose.

    Holly cow! That's a lot.

All I want is an SGI Tezro. One of these days.

In the late 90s, I worked in an environment with SUN workstations for
mail and network services, a gaming graphics team on SGIs, and corporate environment on Windows NT. A handful of Macs for the marketing team.
That was a fun environment to work in.

Oh, I bet it was fun!

It was a gaming company - the company that created Tomb Raider. We were
working with ION Storm, the company that spun off from ID software, and
had a handful of other titles we worked on.

Our QA manager wheeled and dealed with other QA managers - he'd get the
latest video cards to test our games on, traded copies of our games for
Office licenses, Windows client access licenses, licenses for anything
he could get his hands on. Back when WinAMP was paid software, we had a
    site license.

Gaming was encouraged in the office, and seeing suggestive Lara Croft
wallpapers on screens in an office finally became an issue after
complaints. Offices populated almost 24x7 during crunch periods.

Crazy times. I don't think I'd want to do that again, but being single
in San Francisco and in my 30s, it was a blast while it lasted.
