    Hello Rob!

** On Sunday 27.07.25 - 08:17, you wrote to me:

So.. basically they are like another Protonmail file server?

I assume that is more a secure eMail provider service where Sync
is just a file and system backup provider. No eMail service there.

They have Apps that automate backups if you get into using
it more seriously but I just have a couple of dozen files I
regularly keep there so I do it manually.

"Upload, sync, and share files from your Windows desktop,
laptop or tablet. Supports Windows 8, 10, and 11."

..well, I'm at Win7 max, so that ain't gonna work for me.

For now, I use a combination of Proton storage and rclone
methods to sync and keep backups.

The free version gives you 5 gig of storage..

Yes.. that seems quite generous. I think Protons file storage
is only 2GB. My MS Outlook .PST file alone is 1.8GB
    compressed!

Yes, the huge places like Google and Microsoft make a lot of money
from getting ads to you and/or selling your personal info to whoever
    will pay for it..

True. With regards to mail, the large carriers have a lackadaisical
    >approach to removing false positives, almost as if they'd prefer you
    >give up and move to their service! :)

I find most services don't do much about that. The worst thing,
probably just an excuse to make your life miserable if you use
some other service, if anyone from some eMail provider, even if
they have many millions of users, will block all eMail from that
service if one person there gets caught sending out Spam and such.

I've had to go online a few times and fill out forms to have my
address removed from someones's automatic eMail blocking.

I don't have a lot of user experience with gMail since, although
I am required to have an account there for devices, I have anything
sent to me at gMail automatically forwarded to another of my eMail
addresses and, if it requires a reply, I will usually switch the
sender over to use my other address instead.

Just looking online and apparently gMail has 1.8 Billion users,
or about 1/4 of everyone world wide with an eMail address.
No wonder they like to play the Bully.. B)

gmail makes it difficult, imho, for "not large providers" to send mail to people with gmail accounts.

The sender just needs a valid SPF DNS record. Nothing "large" about that.

Yes, My main conputer is Win7 as well.. They do have Apps for
Android and Apple Phones and I do frequently access Sync using
my phone but, because I'm using it so light duty, I just use a
    browser on the phone.

For now, I use a combination of Proton storage and rclone

I was looking at that and that seems a fairly safe outfit too,
although it is based in the Switzerland instead of Canada.
That's probably better than China or Russia though.. B)

Yes, my main 2 eMail services each give me 2 gig of storage for
files or saved messages but I don't use any of that other than
    for regular eMail traffic.

But gMail gives you 15gig if you want to trust them.. B)
