Re: Timezone Kludge Line Missing
By: Dean Galloway to All on Wed Apr 30 2025 01:54 pm
It was reported to me in the Fidotest area that my timezone kludge line is missing from my post.
Can someone please explain what this means and if it's important
It means the date/time stamp of your messages may be incorrect since the date/time information in the headers of FidoNet messages is assumed to be in Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) unless there is a timezone control paragraph (aka TZUTC kludge) present in the message body to indicate otherwise.
For example, your message was presented here (in California) as having been posted at Wed Apr 30 2025 01:54 pm UTC. Does that sound correct?
If your (originating) system is not physically located in a timezone that happens to match GMT/UTC/Zulu time, or your system clock is not explicitly configured for UTC timezone (and set to the proper time offset) or your editor isn't converting from local time to UTC/GMT equivalent, then that's probably an incorrect timestamp.
