200 The Pharcyde News (Synchronet 3.21a-Linux NNTP Service 1.2)
Definitely not JAMNNTPD.
... so what's going on with this incessant reminder about a NNTP
program that nobody apparently uses and specific servers that either
don't use it or are just totally defunct.
Is anybody actually reading this? Does anyone care?
So, yes I'm reading this. Granted, I could care less whether that information is listed in the Fidonews, or not. My guess it is some kind of a fanpage or dedication page to Johan and his program, because the editor has been using that software probably damn near since it's inception.. and I don't have a problem with that. Do you?
I think it's weird. And most of the information provided along with
it appears severely out of date. So yeah, I think it's just noise at
this point.

Sometimes noise is better than silence. Vice versa, too.. but there's already enough silence in this hobby. ;)
Was the BBS software page ever updated? That went years being out of date, until someone cared enough to say something about it.
I'm just saying: Hey editor of FidoNews, can we clean this up?

You might have to do this some archaic, dinosaur era, way. Possibly even giving up your first born in the process. If you go past the page you don't like, I think there's some instructions on how to go about it "properly".
I have nothing against JAMNNTPD, but I've often wondered: why
does it get such high billing in the FIDONEWS?

Why don't you ask the editor of fidonews. :)

You mean hostname? Seems to be the one that was advertised as running JAMNNTPD
(but isn't).
2:2/2 seems still to be operating as a point..

Sometimes you get through, most of the time you don't...

Why not just rename the list to represent "NNTP Feeds"?

rbb.fidonet.fi is running JamNNTPd/OS2

Yup, I did (probe the wrong host) and you're right, it is. Cool. I just thought it was weird that most if not all the listed "servers" weren't actually running the software being advertised. I have nothing against JAMNNTPD (or JamNNTPD) I just was curious why it seems to be such a significant part of the official Fido newsletter and then when checked, most of the listed JAMNNTPD servers weren't actually. So, just seemed
to me like unnecessary noise. But if no one else agrees, so be it.
Seems odd.
I believe the explanation is that the FidoNews "editor" is also
quite.... odd.
Why not just rename the list to represent "NNTP Feeds"?
Sure. Most Synchronet FidoNet nodes run an NNTP service, so the list
could be a lot longer in that case too.
