• How to get out of this misery?

From Joseph Pereira@1:124/5016 to All on Wednesday, April 09, 2025 08:50:52
Let it be clear, the US has and had a problem. A problem that grew with each president. The last one who could really present a budget surplus was Clinton. However, the national debt increased enormously after him.

Bush Jr. started an extremely expensive war and the national debt increased considerably and he therefore made the money supply a state secret. That gave the world less confidence in the dollar. After all, no one knew how many dollars were in circulation. This was the moment that China realized that the then enormous reserve of 2 trillion dollars that they had built up was no longer a sure collateral. From that moment on, China switched to gold and real estate assets abroad. (Belt and Road initiative)

Obama managed to reduce the deficit, but the national debt did increase under him. Trump 1 made a huge promise to the rich and managed to make the national debt explode in four years while the economy collapsed.

Biden had a growing economy, but also a growing spending pattern in combination with the lower tax revenues by Trump 1. For example, Biden gave the population (for far too long) a benefit of 600 dollars per week. In California a pittance, in Detroit more than an average wage.

So Trump 2 started with a problem. After all, there was no budgetary room for another tax cut for the rich. That was no longer in the cards, but Trump had promised them that.

In the meantime, it has become clear that spending had to be cut significantly if he still wanted to give the rich a tax reduction. That is why the draconian interventions by DOGE. That is where the reduced spending must come from. NOT to help the country, but purely to make the rich richer.

I can already tell you that DOGE has failed. They have completely ignored existing employee rights. Lawsuit after lawsuit will be lost. On Monday it was announced that 6,000 civil servants who were fired a month ago have to be rehired, AND they have to receive the month they sat home. So they got a month of paid vacation. No more savings...

That's going to happen a lot more.

Trump had no intention of really turning the budget problem around. He only had the intention of creating enough financial space so that he could implement a tax cut for the rich.

Then the import tariffs... They should generate hundreds of billions in extra taxes.

That's not going to happen either.

First of all, everyone knew that something was coming. So a lot has already been implemented in advance. So the proceeds will be small in the coming months.

But, if the products in the store become more expensive, less will be turnover. So importers will import little or not at all, just to be on the safe side.

So in the coming months we will see economic activity decrease, imports decrease and tax revenues decrease on all fronts.

I think there is a good chance that the US will not be able to maintain the import tariffs and that Trump will have to come up with all sorts of things to come out of this as a tough alpha male. China in particular will put him under pressure. Xi understands better than anyone how weak Trump is. Xi has no desire at all to be made a fool of, by that demented elderly fool who dresses up as an orange, and always lying American.

How can Trump get out of this misery?

I fear not… Trump does not have it in him to do anything for ‘the country’ or ‘the people’. The US elected an egoist and now they get the policies of such a man.

    Just under four more years…

Wow, what a viewpoint - fair and balanced if I'm any judge. Are you sure
you actually live in the United States?

    Have a great day Joseph.

... if the left continues their unwillingness to appeal to the vast majority of democrats, let alone the right, ya'll will be biting your nails for more like 'just under 12 years'...

You'd better HOPE that Trump's plans don't pan out because when they do its going to be lights out for the woke BS ya'll thought you could shove down our throats.
