    ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...

    ...SUMMARY...
Severe thunderstorms are not expected Sunday.

    ...Synopsis...
A front will stall in the vicinity of south FL and provide a focus
for thunderstorm development in a moist environment with PW values
in excess of 2 inches. Across AZ/NM, a midlevel trough will eject northeastward in advance of height falls over the Pacific Northwest
coast late in the period. Midlevel lapse rates, moisture and ascent
could be sufficiently deep for charge separation and isolated
lightning flashes with weak midlevel convection.

    ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...

    ...SUMMARY...
Severe thunderstorms are not expected on Monday.

    ...Synopsis...
A mid-level cut-off low will continue to meander off of the Atlantic
Coast while an upper trough deepens over the Interior West and an
upper ridge remains in place over the central U.S. on Monday. A cool
and/or stable low-level airmass will remain in place over most of
the U.S., limiting thunderstorm development. However, the
amplification of the western upper trough will promote low-level
moisture return beneath cooling temperatures aloft over the Desert
Southwest, increasing the chance for thunderstorms in this area. A
thunderstorm or two may also occur over the far southern FL
Peninsula, in tandem with the heating of some residual low-level
    moisture.

    ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...

    ...SUMMARY...
Severe thunderstorms are not expected on Monday.

    ...Synopsis...
A weak shortwave trough will slowly move across the Southwest, as a
larger amplified trough approaches the West Coast overnight.
Meanwhile, an upper low will linger off the NC coast, with high
pressure centered over the Great Lakes. Dry offshore flow will
continue over the Southeast, with stable conditions. A few
convective showers will be possible near the FL Keys before drying
    from the north.

Widely scattered thunderstorms may develop over parts of AZ and NM
as daytime heating steepens lapse rates, and a midlevel moisture
plume persists. Weak instability with an inversion near 400 mb will
    limit storm strength.

    ...SUMMARY...
No severe thunderstorms are expected on Tuesday.

    ...Synopsis...
An upper trough will amplify while progressing into the Interior
West on Tuesday. As this occurs, deep-layer ascent and cooler
temperatures aloft will encourage at least isolated thunderstorm
development over multiple locales. Preceding the main upper trough,
a 500 mb wind maximum accompanying multiple low-amplitude impulses
will overspread low-level moisture over the Desert Southwest, as
well as portions of the Great Basin, resulting in thunderstorms by
Tuesday afternoon. By later Tuesday night into Wednesday morning,
deep-layer ascent associated with the approach of the primary upper
trough will overspread parts of CA. Cooler temperatures aloft will
overspread a marine boundary layer, encouraging lightning flashes
along the CA shoreline late in the period.

    ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...

    ...SUMMARY...
No severe thunderstorms are expected on Tuesday.

    ...Synopsis...
A large upper trough is forecast to amplify just off the CA coast,
with increasing south/southwest winds aloft, as well as cooling
aloft near the coast overnight. To the east, minor height rises will
occur over the Plains, while an upper low meanders off the Mid
    Atlantic coast.

At the surface, high pressure over the Upper Great Lakes and Ontario
will shift eastward, though the surface ridge will remain entrenched
into the Southern Plains. This will maintain stable conditions over
    the central and eastern states.

General thunderstorm chances will be limited to parts of the
southwestern states in relation to the upper trough. Veering winds
with height and moderate deep-layer shear will develop over AZ and
NM as the upper trough amplified. However, forecast soundings show a
subsidence inversion above 500 mb during the day, which will limit
storm intensity. Overnight, elevated instability may increase as
cooling aloft occurs, with isolated storms still possible. Potential
should generally increase into Wednesday/D4 as the upper trough
    strengthens.

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS
OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN ARIZONA INTO FAR WESTERN NEW MEXICO...

    ...SUMMARY...
Isolated severe wind/hail and perhaps a brief tornado may occur over
portions of Arizona into western New Mexico on Wednesday.

    ...Synopsis...
An upper trough will continue to deepen while traversing the
Interior West on Wednesday, provoking a strong low-level mass
response across the Desert Southwest and Rockies into the High
Plains. Adequate low-level moisture will stream northward across CA
and the Interior West, beneath strong, nearly unidirectional
southwesterly flow aloft. At least scattered thunderstorms are
anticipated across much of the CONUS west of the Rockies. However,
the richest low-level moisture and associated buoyancy will reside
in the Lower Colorado River Basin, where an isolated severe threat
    will exist.

    ...Lower Colorado River Basin...
Across the Lower Colorado River Basin, low to mid 50s F surface
dewpoints will advect northward beneath 6.5+ C/km mid-level lapse
rates and a 50-80 kt 500 mb jet streak. 500-1000 J/kg MLCAPE may
manifest amid large and elongated hodographs. These conditions would
support multicells and perhaps a few supercell structures with an
attendant isolated severe wind/hail threat and perhaps a brief
tornado, warranting the introduction of Category 1/Marginal Risk
    probabilities this outlook.

    ...Central California Valley Region...
On Wednesday afternoon, a 70+ kt southerly 500 mb jet, as well as 7+
C/km mid-level lapse rates, will overspread central and southern CA
as the upper trough overspreads the San Joaquin Valley. The strong,
nearly unidirectional flow will yield slightly curved, but very
elongated hodographs. Such conditions would typically favor the
development of low-topped supercells. However, surface
temperatures/dewpoints in the upper 50s/mid 40s F may limit buoyancy considerably, precluding severe probabilities this outlook.

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER MUCH OF
ARIZONA...FAR SOUTHERN UTAH AND FAR WESTERN NEW MEXICO...

    ...SUMMARY...
Isolated severe hail, wind and perhaps a brief tornado may occur
over portions of Arizona, southern Utah and western New Mexico on
    Wednesday.

    ...Discussion...
An upper low will slowly approach CA Wednesday, with strong
southwest winds aloft overspreading much of the Great Basin, Lower
CO River Valley, AZ and UT. A surface trough will develop during the
day from southern CA/southwest AZ into central NV, with gusty south
to southeast surface winds aiding boundary-layer mixing, as well as
moisture advection across AZ and into southern UT.

Scattered showers and storms may be ongoing over northern AZ
Wednesday morning, aided by upslope winds. Further destabilization
is likely during the day, with expanding storm coverage overall.
Favorable deep-layer shear over 50 kt with elongated hodographs will
favor a few supercells producing hail. A tornado or two may occur
especially over the elevated terrain where LCL heights will be
    lower.

Instability and placement/timing of the greatest threat area is a
bit uncertain, but increased severe probabilities may occur in later
    updates as the event nears.

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR PARTS OF THE
DESERT SOUTHWEST INTO THE GREAT BASIN...

    ...SUMMARY...
At least isolated severe wind/hail producing storms are possible
across portions of the Great Basin into the Desert Southwest on
    Thursday.

    ...Synopsis...
A mid-level longwave trough will overspread the CONUS west of the
Rockies on Thursday, resulting in the continued northward advection
of a moist, marginally unstable low-level airmass across the Desert
Southwest into the Great Basin. A broad 50-70 kt mid-level jet will
overspread these regions during the day, resulting in strong
vertical wind shear, that coupled with the marginal instability will
yield scattered strong to severe thunderstorms.

...Desert Southwest into the Great Basin...
The aforementioned 50-70 kt southwesterly 500 mb jet streak will
overspread south-southeasterly low-level flow, resulting in
elongated hodographs and over 50 kts of effective bulk shear. Though
widespread clouds may inhibit surface heating to some degree,
    continued low-level moisture advection (e.g. 60+ F surface
dewpoints) beneath 7+ C/km mid-level lapse rates will yield up to
1000 J/kg MLCAPE. Such conditions will favor multicells and
supercells capable of producing at least isolated instances of
severe hail and/or wind and perhaps a tornado. A marginal risk has
been introduced to address the severe threat. However, if areas of
locally greater surface heating (i.e. breaks in clouds) become
evident, then higher severe probabilities may be needed in future
    outlooks.

...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PARTS OF
    ARIZONA...

    ...SUMMARY...
At least isolated severe thunderstorms are expected across the
Southwest and Four Corners area on Thursday, with the greatest risk
    across parts of Arizona.

    ...Arizona and Desert Southwest/Great Basin...
A prominent/deep low-latitude upper trough off the coast of
California will become more northeastward-progressive on Thursday as
it moves inland toward the Lower Colorado River Valley. While some
weakening of the deep-layer wind field may occur over time, wind
profiles will nonetheless remain rather supportive of organized
storm modes, potentially including some supercells and sustained
multicells capable of hail and possibly some tornado risk, which may
primarily focus the first part of the day. These wind profiles with long/semi-straight hodographs will support at least some severe
potential even if instability is a bit muted by early day cloud
cover and precipitation. It currently appears that parts of central
into eastern Arizona will have the most-favorable severe-weather
ingredients on Thursday, and the longest relative duration thereof,
hence a categorical Slight Risk upgrade.

    CENTRAL INTO SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO...

    ...SUMMARY...
Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible across portions of
central into southern New Mexico on Friday.

    ...Synopsis...
A broad longwave upper trough will impinge on the Rockies on Friday,
supporting strong surface lee troughing along the High Plains.
Continued northward advecting low-level moisture and deep-layer
ascent accompanying the broad upper trough will support isolated to
scattered thunderstorms all along the Rockies to the northern
Plains. Across portions of the southern Rockies, locally richer
moisture and associated instability, beneath stronger flow aloft,
will support a risk for isolated severe thunderstorms.

...Portions of central into southern New Mexico...
An embedded mid-level impulse and accompanying 50+ kt mid-level
southwesterly speed max will graze the southern Rockies during by
afternoon. By this time, surface heating of a low-level airmass
comprising upper 50s F dewpoints and overspread by 7.5+ C/km
mid-level lapse rates will yield over 1500 J/kg MLCAPE in spots.
Scattered thunderstorms should initiate by afternoon, amid veering
and strengthening flow with height. Forecast soundings show modest
low-level hodograph curvature and up to 40 kts of effective bulk
shear. This shear, along with the aforementioned buoyancy, should
support a mix of multicells and supercells capable of producing
isolated instances of severe hail and wind.

    ...SUMMARY...
Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible across portions of

    ...New Mexico...
Steady mid-level height falls are expected across the Southwest in
the wake of a departing shortwave trough. Low-level moisture will be
maintained on the western edge of an expansive eastern surface
ridge. Sufficient surface heating will allow 500-1500 J/kg MLCAPE to
develop during the afternoon (greater values with southward extent).
Cooling aloft, modest mid-level lapse rates, and moderate deep-layer
shear will support a mix of multicells and supercells. Large hail
and isolated severe gusts will be the main concerns within parts of
    central New Mexico.

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR CENTRAL NEW
    MEXICO INTO FAR WEST TEXAS...

    ...SUMMARY...
Isolated severe wind/hail or a tornado are possible across portions
of central New Mexico into Far West Texas on Saturday.

    ...Synopsis...
A mid-level cut-off low will traverse the Desert Southwest and
impinge on the southern High Plains on Saturday. This will provoke a
low-level mass response in the form of northwestward moisture
advection through the day. Cooler temperatures and stronger flow
aloft associated with the cut-off low will overspread the low-level
moisture, resulting in enough buoyancy and shear overlap to support
    an isolated severe threat.

...Portions of central NM into Far West TX...
Through the afternoon, 40-50 kt south-southwesterly mid-level flow
and 7+ C/km mid-level lapse rates from the approaching cut-off low
will overspread mid to upper 50s F surface dewpoints and backed
southeasterly surface winds. With surface heating of the
aforementioned moist low-level airmass, MLCAPE may exceed 1000 J/kg,
perhaps locally exceeding 1500 J/kg in spots given locally greater
insolation. Veering and strengthening flow with height will yield
modestly curved and elongated hodographs, with over 40 kts of
effective bulk shear expected. Multicells and perhaps a couple of
supercells may develop and persist for at least a few hours before
merging into a loosely organized line of thunderstorms. Storms
should be at their strongest during their supercell stage, capable
of producing isolated severe hail/wind and perhaps a tornado.

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM CENTRAL NEW
    MEXICO INTO FAR WEST TEXAS...

    ...SUMMARY...
Isolated severe wind/hail or a tornado are possible across portions
of central New Mexico into Far West Texas on Saturday.

    ...Synopsis...
Southern-stream cyclone is forecast to begin the period over the
Lower CO Valley. Substantial upper ridging downstream across the MS
Valley will limit the eastward progression of this cyclone, and the
general expectation is for this cyclone to be centered over central
AZ by early Sunday morning. Moderate southwesterly flow aloft will
persist between the western cyclone and eastern ridging, extending
from northwest Mexico across NM and the central Plains. Lower
surface pressure will also precede this cyclone, resulting in a
tightened gradient and increased southeasterly low-level flow into
    the Southwest.

...Central/southern NM into Far West TX...
Increasing low-level moisture coupled with at least modest daytime
heating will foster airmass destabilization by the early afternoon
across central/southern NM into far west TX, downstream of the
slowly approaching cyclone. Greatest low-level moisture (and
resultant buoyancy) is expected from far west TX into southern NM,
with more limited low-level moisture and buoyancy farther north. The
moderately strong and deep southwesterly flow aloft will support
long hodographs, and an attendant potential for supercells with any
persistent updrafts. Large hail should be the primary risk, with
some threat for damaging gusts and tornadoes as well. A relatively
higher severe risk could materialize from south-central NM into far
west TX where higher dewpoints and stronger southeasterly surface
winds are possible. Uncertainty regarding cloudiness and the quality
of the low-level moisture precludes introduces any higher severe
    probabilities with this outlook.

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PARTS OF
SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO AND FAR WESTERN TEXAS...

    ...SUMMARY...
Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms, posing mainly a risk for
hail, are possible on Sunday across portions of southern New Mexico
    and Far West Texas.

    ...Synopsis...

An upper cyclone/trough over UT/AZ will lift northeast across the southern/central Rockies on Sunday into early Monday. A belt of
enhanced southwesterly flow aloft will persist across the southern
Rockies and adjacent High Plains. Modest southeasterly low-level
flow will maintain 50s F surface dewpoints across western TX into southern/eastern NM to the south of a stalled surface boundary
oriented from northeast NM into western KS.

Convection is likely to be ongoing Sunday morning, lending to some
uncertainty in northward extent of low severe probabilities. Further
south across southern/southeast NM into Far West Texas, forecast
guidance suggests muted daytime heating could occur across the
modestly moist airmass, resulting in weak destabilization. Supercell
wind profiles will again be present given vertically veering winds
and increasing southwesterly flow with height. Cool midlevel
temperatures and elongated hodographs suggest hail will be the main
    risk with stronger convection.

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS NEW
    MEXICO AND FAR WEST TEXAS...

    ...SUMMARY...
Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms, posing mainly a risk for
hail, are possible on Sunday across southern/eastern New Mexico and
    far west Texas.

    ...New Mexico/west Texas..
It appears that Sunday will be an overall downtrend in terms of
regional severe risk, but at least some severe risk is still
expected mainly across southern/eastern New Mexico and far west
Texas. The persistent southern-stream trough over the Southwest will
likely become more northeastward-progressive over the Four Corners
while deamplifying/weakening toward the central/southern High Plains
    on Sunday.

Severe-conducive destabilization is expected particularly across south-central/southeast New Mexico and far west Texas Sunday
afternoon, with greater uncertainty with north-northeastward extent
due to the potential for lingering early day cloud cover and
precipitation. Where adequate destabilization does occur, moderately strong/vertically veering wind profiles (35-45 kt effective shear)
will support organized storm modes including a few supercells.
Current thinking is that large hail is the most probable severe
risk, primarily Sunday afternoon and early evening.

    ...SUMMARY...
Severe thunderstorm potential is expected to be low on Monday.

    ...Synopsis...

An upper shortwave trough over the central Plains will continue
weakening as it lifts northeast to the Upper MS Valley on Monday.
Meanwhile, a weak upper shortwave impulse will move across the
southern High Plains vicinity and a stronger/deepening upper
cyclone/trough will dig over the Intermountain West. At the surface,
a cold front will develop southward across the central Plains and
Mid-MO Valley. Southerly low-level flow will maintain modest
boundary layer moisture across the southern High Plains into the
KS/NE ahead of the surface front. Instability is expected to remain
weak, and vertical shear will also be weaker than the previous few
days. As a result, severe thunderstorm potential appears limited.

    ...SUMMARY...
Severe thunderstorm potential is expected to be low on Monday.

    ...Synopsis...
A midlevel low now over the lower CO River Valley will eject
    east-northeastward Monday across KS/NE to IA/MN. A few
thunderstorms will be possible along an associated baroclinic zone
from the central Plains into the southern High Plains. Relatively
larger buoyancy/steeper lapse rates and marginal deep-layer vertical
shear are expected in the vicinity of far west TX, though confidence
is too low to add an outlook area for isolated large hail at this
time. Otherwise, an upstream shortwave trough will progress inland
from OR to ID, where isolated lightning flashes will be possible
with low-topped convection closer to the OR coast. Farther inland,
there is some potential for isolated flashes as far east as ID
during the afternoon/evening, but the magnitude of buoyancy is
questionable enough to preclude an outlook area. Isolated
thunderstorms may also occur with returning moisture to the middle
and lower TX coast, and along the southeast FL coast on the western
periphery of a closed low over the Bahamas.

Severe thunderstorms are not expected on Tuesday.

    ...Synopsis...

A series of upper troughs will migrate across the north-central U.S.
on Tuesday while upper ridging amplifies over the East. Southerly
low-level flow will maintain modest boundary layer moisture (mainly
50s F dewpoints) from OK/KS into the Upper Midwest/Great Lakes, with
60s F dewpoints possible further south across TX. A surface front
initially over KS to central IA will lift northward through the
period in response to increasing low-level warm advection ahead of a
shortwave trough traversing the northern Plains. Isolated
thunderstorms are possible within the broader warm advection regime
across parts of the Plains from South TX into the Mid-MO Valley.
Modest instability and generally weak vertical shear will preclude
    severe potential.

    ...SUMMARY...
    Severe thunderstorms are unlikely Tuesday.

    ...Synopsis...
An upper-level cyclone over the northern Rockies will gradually
weaken as it transitions to an open wave over the northern Plains
and southern Canada Tuesday. Broad and weak southwest flow aloft
will continue over the Southwest and Plains as ridging builds over
the Southeast. A weak surface low and trailing front initially over
the central Plains will lift northward slowly with the upper cyclone
through the period. Modest southerly low-level flow will support 50s
to low 60s F surface dewpoints, sufficient for modest
destabilization ahead of the front. Isolated thunderstorms are
possible within the broader warm advection regime across parts of
the Plains from South TX into the Mid-MO Valley. However, weak
instability and vertical shear suggests little, if any, convective
organization is likely. This should preclude more than sporadic
    severe potential.

    ...SUMMARY...
Severe thunderstorm potential appears low on Wednesday.

    ...Synopsis...

    A low-amplitude west/southwesterly upper-level flow regime will
overspread much of the CONUS on Wednesday. Stronger westerlies will
extend from the Pacific Northwest to the Great Lakes, weakening with
southward extent. Surface high pressure will be focused over the
eastern U.S., while modest surface troughing extends from the Upper
Midwest to the southern High Plains. South/southwesterly low-level
flow will transport modest boundary layer moisture northward across
portions of the southern/central Plains and into the Upper MS
Valley. Isolated thunderstorm activity will be possible within this
plume of modest moisture and weak destabilization. Any stronger
instability is forecast to be across the southern Plains,
particularly TX, where deeper moisture will be in place (compared to
further north). However, weak vertical shear and a lack of focused
ascent will limit severe potential. Further north across the Upper
Midwest, instability will be weaker given a cooler and less moist
airmass, precluding severe potential, despite stronger deep-layer west/southwesterly flow.

    ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...

    ...SUMMARY...
Severe thunderstorm potential appears low on Wednesday.

    ...Synopsis...
A broad, low-amplitude upper troughing regime will overspread the
northern CONUS on Wednesday. Within this flow, at least one notable
embedded impulse will traverse the northern Plains, resulting in
surface troughing over the Upper MS Valley, where modest low-level
moisture advection should occur. Enough upper support associated
with the passing of the aforementioned mid-level impulse should
encourage at least elevated thunderstorm development over the Upper
MS Valley, though the prospects of severe thunderstorms are far more conditional.

    ...Upper MS Valley...
The approach of the mid-level impulse will result in modest
low-level moisture return over the Upper MS Valley, with surface
dewpoints potentially exceeding 60 F as far north as southern MN. 7+
C/km mid-level lapse rates overspreading this low-level moisture
will yield MLCAPE potentially reaching 1000-1500 J/kg in spots.
    Furthermore, a 30-40 kt south-southwesterly low-level jet is
expected to develop by late afternoon, beneath 30-50 kt 500 mb west-southwesterly flow. Effective bulk shear up to 50 kts may
result, along with enlarged and curved low-level hodographs (per RAP
and RRFS forecast soundings). Such CAPE/shear profiles ahead of a
mid-level impulse and surface trough could conditionally yield
supercells with severe potential. In actuality though, modest MLCINH
may overspread the warm sector, amid neutral height rises/falls,
which may hinder severe potential, though elevated convection is
still possible later Wednesday night. On balance, the initiation of
robust, surface-based convection appears too limited for the
    introduction of severe probabilities.

    ...SUMMARY...
Severe thunderstorms are not expected on Thursday.

    ...Synopsis...

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across portions of
NM/TX and into the Plains on Thursday as a midlevel shortwave trough
moves across the southern Rockies into the southern Plains.
Deep-layer southwesterly flow is expected to remain modest, and any
stronger flow aloft will remain confined to the northern tier of the
    U.S. South/southeasterly low-level flow will maintain 50s to low 60s
dewpoints across the southern Plains toward the Lower MO Valley
vicinity. This will support a band of modest destabilization from
eastern NM into KS on the nose of stronger low-level warm advection.
However, the area of any appreciable destabilization is expected to
be displaced from the modest large-scale ascent provided by the
ejecting southern stream shortwave. Overall, severe thunderstorm
    potential appears low.

An upper ridge will build over the CONUS east of the Rockies while a
mid-level trough amplifies over the Pacific Northwest on Thursday.
Surface high pressure and accompanying subsidence will limit
thunderstorm development over most places east of the MS River and
over the Intermountain West. However, weak surface troughing and
subsequent low-level moisture return will promote some thunderstorm
potential over the central and southern Plains within a warm-air
advection regime. A couple of thunderstorms are also possible over
portions of the FL Peninsula given the presence of a warm, moist
boundary layer. Lastly, a couple of lightning flashes are possible
along the shoreline of the Pacific Northwest late Thursday night
into early Friday morning. However, buoyancy appears too scant to
support enough lightning coverage for the introduction of a General

Severe thunderstorm potential appears low on Friday.

    ...Synopsis...

Showers and thunderstorms will again be possible on Friday across
portions of the south-central U.S. as a weak midlevel shortwave
trough continues to slowly lift northeast across the
southern/central Plains. Weak instability and limited vertical shear
    will preclude severe thunderstorm potential.

Further west, southerly low-level flow will maintain 50s to near 60
F surface dewpoints across southern AZ as a weak upper shortwave
trough moves across the Lower CO Valley and Southwest. Cool
temperatures aloft will support steep midlevel lapse rates atop the
relatively moist boundary layer, fostering areas of modest
destabilization. Isolated to scattered thunderstorm development will
be possible, though deep-layer shear is expected to remain somewhat
weak (15-25 kt effective shear). Currently, severe thunderstorm
potential appears limited, but a stronger storm or two could produce
small hail. Trends bear watching as any uptick in instability or
strengthening shear could support a more isolated risk for severe
    thunderstorms across southern/central AZ.

Severe thunderstorm potential appears low on Friday.

    ...Synopsis...
As upper-level ridging increases within the northern Plains, a
shortwave trough in the Southwest will evolve into a nebulous trough
within the southern/central Plains. Stronger mid-level flow will
arrive within the lower Colorado Valley vicinity towards late
afternoon into the evening as a shortwave trough approaches the Baja
    Peninsula.

A broad swath of convection/precipitation is expected in association
with the shortwave trough and warm-advection within the Missouri
Valley vicinity. Poor lapse rates and limited buoyancy should limit
the intensity of this activity. Additional storms are possible
during the mid/late afternoon in the lower Colorado Valley into
parts of southern/central Arizona. Cooler temperatures aloft will
support modest buoyancy (500 to around 1000 J/kg MLCAPE). While a
strong storm or two could produce small hail, shear will remain
limited during the afternoon and should keep severe risk low.

Severe thunderstorms are not expected on Saturday.

    ...Synopsis...

A weak mid/upper shortwave impulse will spread east from the

Modest boundary layer moisture (increasing near the Gulf Coast) and
cool temperatures aloft (around -10 to -12 C at 500 mb) will support
sufficient instability for widely scattered showers and
thunderstorms from OK/TX toward the Lower MS Valley. Overall severe thunderstorm potential will remain limited by generally weak flow
and lack of stronger surface cyclogenesis. Additional thunderstorms
are possible across portions of the Great Basin as an upper trough
deepens across the Pacific Northwest and northern Great Basin at the

with this activity. Additional convection will also occur ahead of
the trough moving into the Great Basin where temperatures aloft will
be cold (-18 to -22 C at 500 mb). While mid-level flow will be
strong in some areas, buoyancy will be too limited for a severe
    risk.

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER MUCH OF
CENTRAL AND EASTERN NEW MEXICO...AND SMALL PARTS OF WESTERN TEXAS...

    ...SUMMARY...
A few severe storms are anticipated from central New Mexico into
parts of western Texas late Sunday into Sunday night.

    ...Discussion...
An amplified upper trough will move across the Great Basin on
Sunday, while another wave to the south moves across northern Baja
CA and into AZ. By late in the day, gusty south winds will increase
across the Rockies and into the southern High Plains, as low
pressure develops over WY through 00Z.

During the late evening and overnight, a prominent cold front will
move out of AZ and into NM as the parent wave aloft continues
northeastward across NM and into the central to southern High
Plains. The surface low is forecast to deepen overnight into CO,
with a surface trough into eastern NM and western TX through 12Z
    Monday.

After a full day of heating, low-level lapse rates will be steep,
and gusty winds overnight should maintain relatively warm
temperatures ahead of the cold front. Dewpoints from the upper 40s
to mid 50s F should also be maintained ahead of the front, with
thunderstorms developing near the cold front after about 03-06Z.
Deep-layer shear will be strong, with supercell wind profiles.
Instability will be marginal over central NM, perhaps supporting
locally severe gusts or marginal hail, with a potentially greater
concentration of severe storms into eastern NM where low-level
moisture will be more abundant with MUCAPE over 1000 J/kg. The
strongest cooling aloft will spread over northern NM and into the TX
Panhandle, and this is where a potentially greater hail and wind
threat could develop. Both cellular and possibly QLCS storm mode
will be possible, with storms tied to the cold front. A small
corridor of higher severe probabilities could be added in later
    outlooks as trends warrant.

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR PARTS OF
CENTRAL NEW MEXICO INTO WESTERN TEXAS...

    ...SUMMARY...
A few severe storms are anticipated from parts of central New Mexico
into parts of western Texas late Sunday into Sunday night.

    ...Synopsis...
Upper troughs within the Great Basin and near the Baja Peninsula
will begin to phase into a broader Southwest trough on Sunday. A
surface low will deepen in the eastern Great Basin and evolve
eastward into central High Plains by Monday morning. A cold front
    will move through New Mexico.

    ...New Mexico...
Cloud cover will be on the increase ahead of the upper level system.
This will lead to some areas not receiving very much surface
heating. The greatest surface heating will likely occur in eastern
New Mexico into the southern High Plains. Low-level moisture will be
maintained by southerly low-level flow. 40s to low 50s F dewpoints
can be expected in much of central New Mexico with low 60s F
possible farther south/east towards the southern High Plains. The
presence of a strong mid-level jet will promote strong wind shear
across the region. While supercells will be possible, linear forcing
from the front may keep the storm mode more linear in nature.
Despite limited buoyancy and the late timing of the activity, the
strong wind fields will support a threat for convectively enhanced
severe wind gusts. Marginally severe hail may also occur conditional
    on a supercell storm mode.

...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER PARTS OF
NORTHERN TEXAS...AND FROM WESTERN AND CENTRAL OKLAHOMA INTO
    SOUTHEAST KANSAS...

    ...SUMMARY...
Scattered severe storms may develop across parts of the central to
southern Plains Monday from late afternoon into the evening, with
damaging wind gusts the main threat.

    ...Discussion...
On Monday, a large upper trough will cross the Rockies and move into
the Plains, with the upper low moving from CO into KS. A leading
wave will move out of the southern High Plains and into OK/KS during
the day, while the secondary and stronger wave moves eastward out of
    northern NM.

At the surface, low pressure will be present over the central High
Plains Monday morning, and this will deepen into NE by 00Z. A cold
front will extend southwestward from the low, moving southward
across CO and western KS during the day. Another front/dryline will
extend south across central KS, western OK, and western TX through
00Z, and this boundary will push east overnight as the NM
    disturbance proceeds eastward.

While ample deep-layer shear and a broad fetch of 60s F dewpoints
will exist over the central and southern Plains, surface heating
will be limited over much of the area, and likely relegated to the
dryline. Forecast soundings indicate a relatively cool but moist
boundary layer east of the dryline during the day, with a minor
capping inversion above 850 mb which should prevent warm sector
    storms away from the dryline/front.

It is therefore anticipated that the severe risk will begin near or
just after 00Z over western OK and perhaps northwest TX, with
increasing storm coverage through the evening as activity spreads
across OK, eastern KS, and parts of northern TX. More isolated
activity will also be possible along the dryline toward the Rio
    Grande.

Storms should initiate near the dryline/wind shift where upper 70s F temperatures are expected, reducing inhibition. Ample turning with
height of the wind fields as well as up to a 50 kt low-level jet
will support storm rotation, whether discrete or forming into a
line. Instability will not be particularly strong, but sufficient to
support wind damage, and perhaps a tornado risk between 00-06Z.

...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM
CENTRAL/EASTERN KANSAS ACROSS OKLAHOMA INTO NORTH TEXAS...

    ...SUMMARY...
Scattered severe storms may develop across parts of the central to
southern Plains Monday from late afternoon into the evening, with
damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes the main threats.

    ...Central/southern Plains...
A lead speed max is expected to eject quickly northeastward from the
central Plains to the upper MS Valley as an initial lee cyclone
likewise moves northeastward from northeast CO to southwest MN and
weakens gradually. Secondary cyclogenesis is then expected across
KS in advance of the primary shortwave trough progressing eastward
from the southern Rockies to the southern/central Plains. The
secondary cyclone in KS will help maintain a 40-50 kt southerly
low-level jet through Monday afternoon/evening from eastern KS into
eastern OK, with associated northward advection of mid 60s
boundary-layer dewpoints in the warm sector.

Midlevel lapse rates will be limited by prior days
clouds/precipitation across the upstream source region, but
convective inhibition will also be weak. The aforementioned
low-level moisture, in combination with daytime heating in cloud
breaks associated with the midlevel dry slot, will support MLCAPE in
the 1000-1500 J/kg range. Scattered thunderstorm development
appears probable by mid-late afternoon from just east of the KS
triple point southward along the dry line/Pacific cold front into
western OK. Deep-layer vertical shear and forcing for ascent will
favor a mix of supercells and line segments capable of producing
severe outflow gusts and a few tornadoes, as well as isolated large
hail initially. Storms should tend to evolve into more linear
structures into Monday night with a continued threat for occasional
wind damage and/or a couple of tornadoes with embedded circulations.

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER PARTS OF
THE LOWER TO MIDDLE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY AND TOWARD THE SABINE
    RIVER...

    ...SUMMARY...
Scattered storms will occur from the Sabine and Lower Mississippi
Valleys northward into the Mid Mississippi Valley on Tuesday. A few thunderstorms may produce damaging gusts.

    ...Discussion...
On Tuesday, an amplified upper trough will move east out of the
Plains and toward the MS Valley, with an expansive region of
south/southwest winds aloft from the Sabine Valley to the Upper
Great Lakes. Southerly surface winds will further transport moisture
northward with 60s F dewpoints to the Mid MS Valley, and upper 60s F
    into the Lower MS Valley.

The elongated surface trough/wind shift will support rain and
thunderstorms through the period as the trough gradually shifts
east. Some diurnal increase in storm intensity is possible, and the
greatest potential for isolated severe storms should be over
southern parts of the MS Valley and to the Sabine River where
instability will be strongest. Wind profiles will be marginally
supportive of severe storms with 30-35 kt effective shear over
southern areas. Farther north into MO and IL, shear will be
stronger, but instability will be quite weak. Strong wind gusts
appear to be the main threat.

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM THE MID
    MISSISSIPPI VALLEY TO EASTERN TEXAS...

    ...SUMMARY...
Scattered storms will occur from the Sabine and Lower Mississippi
Valleys northward into the Mid Mississippi Valley on Tuesday. A few thunderstorms may produce damaging gusts.

    ...Synopsis...
An amplified upper low over the central US is forecast to move east
out of the Plains and toward the MS Valley Tuesday. An expansive
area of strong southerly flow aloft east of the low will stretch
from the TX Gulf Coast to the western Great Lakes. Mid-level height
falls will maintain a surface low over MN/WI. This will maintain
strong southerly surface winds, allowing 60s F surface dewpoints to
expand northward across the MS Valley. Trailing the low, a cold
front will sweep eastward, serving as a focus for isolated severe
    storms Tuesday.

    ...Mid to lower MS Valley...
A band of thunderstorms is likely to be ongoing along the advancing
cold front and a pre-frontal surface trough/wind shift early in the
diurnal cycle. Downstream destabilization appears limited owing to
poor lapse rates and the weakening upper trough. Still, some modest
surface heating, marginally supportive deep-layer shear (30-35 kts)
and the moist environment (PWATS near 2 in.) could support some
stronger wind gusts with a broken line of storms across eastern AR,
into MS and LA Tuesday afternoon/evening.

Farther north into MO, IL and western TN/KY, buoyancy is expected to
remain quite weak ahead of the cold front. Stronger forcing for
ascent and vertical shear may maintain a low-topped and forced
frontal squall line for some time. The strong wind fields could
allow for some damaging gusts or brief tornado risk. However,
exactly how far east the line is able to be maintained is unclear
due to the weak buoyancy, increasing inhibition and cooler surface temperatures.

    ...SUMMARY...
Severe storms are unlikely on Wednesday.

    ...Synopsis...
An upper low will move from the Upper MS Valley to the Upper Great
Lakes on Wednesday, with glancing height falls toward the
Appalachians as a leading speed max aloft ejects northeastward out
of the OH Valley. A surface low is forecast to move northward out of
WI and toward Lake Superior, with a weak surface trough/winds shift
pushing across the Upper OH and TN Valleys during the day.

While lift/upper support will be minimal over the Southeast, mid to
upper 60s F dewpoints will support weak instability from AL into GA
and eastern TN. Given the antecedent surface high over the Mid
Atlantic, and departure of the upper system, waning large-scale
support would suggest little severe weather risk. However, scattered
general thunderstorms are likely near the front as it moves across
    KY/TN/AL/GA.

    ...SUMMARY...
Severe storms are unlikely on Wednesday.

    ...Synopsis...
A cyclone is forecast to occlude in the vicinity of WI as a cold
front slows its eastward movement late in the period across the
upper OH Valley, and stalls across the TN/lower MS Valley region.
The southern extent of an associated midlevel trough will brush the
northern edge of a weakly unstable warm sector early in the period.
Forcing for ascent and low-level flow/shear will tend to weaken
within the warm sector by afternoon, so any threat for severe storms
in the vicinity of northern AL appears too marginal for an outlook
area. Otherwise, isolated lightning flashes will be possible into
parts of the Great Lakes with marginal buoyancy.

Farther west, a shortwave trough will progress quickly eastward over
the Four Corners to the southern High Plains late in the period.
Ascent in the left-exit region of the mid-upper jet streak, in
combination with sufficient moisture and steep lapse rates, will
support the potential for lightning flashes with low-topped
    convection.

    ...SUMMARY...
A few strong storms are possible Friday over parts of eastern North
    Carolina and Virginia.

    ...Discussion...
On Friday, the southern lobe of the eastern trough will move rapidly
east from the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys and into the Mid Atlantic
by afternoon, with strong cooling aloft and increasing midlevel
winds over 60 kt. A surface trough will deepen a bit during the day
over the eastern Carolinas and Virginia, where mid 60s F dewpoints
    will be in place.

Early day rain and thunderstorms will be possible, which may
mitigate destabilization somewhat. However, at least some diurnal
surface heating may occur upstream/south, with gradual warming and
further destabilization during the day via advection. Increasing
large-scale lift may support renewed development along the effective outflow/baroclinic zone. Given increasing mean wind fields aloft and
favorable deep-layer shear, at least isolated damaging gusts may
    occur.

Given the ongoing early day rain and some model discrepancy as to
effective frontal position, will defer possible low severe
    probabilities to later updates.

    ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...

    ...SUMMARY...
No severe threat is forecast across the continental U.S. Sunday and
    Sunday night.

    ...Synopsis...

An upper-level low over northwest Mexico will spread eastward toward
the Rio Grande Valley in TX on Sunday. Modest low to midlevel
moisture will be in place across southern and central TX. Cool
temperatures aloft will support weak elevated instability and
isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible across
southern/central TX as large-scale ascent overspreads the region for
much of the period. Limited heating, poor low-level lapse rates/cool
surface temperatures, and only minor elevated instability will
    preclude severe thunderstorm potential.

Thunderstorms are not expected elsewhere across the CONUS.
